BAGHDAD, May 15 - At least nine people were killed and 65 others wounded as six car bombings struck the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Wednesday, an Interior Ministry source said.
The first car bomb exploded in the Kadhimiya district, north of Baghdad, killing two people and injuring nine others, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The second bombing in the New Baghdad district in southeastern Baghdad killed one person and wounded ten while the third car bombing in the Al Meshtel district in southeastern Baghdad led to one dead and 13 injured, he said.
Car bombings also hit the districts of Zaafraniyah, Sadr City and Seydia in the capital city, killing five people and wounding 33 others altogether, the source said.
Violence is still common in war-torn Iraq despite the dramatic decrease since its peak in 2006 and 2007 when the country was engulfed in sectarian killings. According to the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, the death toll among Iraqis from violence in April hit its highest level since 2008, with 712 people killed in violence across the country.
