PARIS: A man armed with a box cutter on Saturday attacked a French soldier patrolling the business district of Paris and stabbed him in the neck, police sources said.
President Francois Hollande, speaking during a trip to Ethiopia, said that "at this stage" there was no indication that the attack was linked to a deadly knife attack on a British soldier this week in London.
He said all possibilities must be examined in the incident in the busy La Defense area, which at weekends is packed with shoppers, from which the attacker managed to flee.
The soldier was in uniform and armed and was patrolling as part of France's Vigipirate anti-terrorist surveillance scheme.
Police said the man would survive the attack but gave no information on possible motivation for the assault.
