Five UN peacekeepers and seven civilians working with the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan were killed in an ambush near the Gumuruk settlement in Jonglei State, the UN said on Tuesday.
“At least nine additional peacekeepers and civilians were injured in the attack and some remain unaccounted for,” Reuters reported, quoting officials in the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
India's foreign ministry earlier said the peacekeepers killed were Indian nationals.
The nationalities of the civilians killed were not immediately disclosed.
