North Korean workers did not come to work Tuesday at the factory run in cooperation with South Korea since 2004, South Korean employees said.
It comes one day after North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un announced he would recall the 51,000 workers in a show of economic solidarity against the South.
It’s also a signal that North Korea is willing to hurt its own economy in order to convey anger with South Korea and the United States after the United Nations put sanctions in place to punish North Korea for a third nuclear test on February 12.
Closing the jointly run factory would sever the final economic link between the North and South.
