Iran to allow inspectors in after protocol signed: diplomat

MOSCOW, May 18 - Tehran will allow international inspectors to enter its nuclear facilities after a protocol is signed, the Iranian ambassador to Russia said Saturday.

The condition for observers with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to inspect Iran's Parchin nuclear facilities is that a protocol between the two sides should be signed, Ambassador Reza Sajjadi told local reporters.

Sajjadi said the protocol would "explain all the so-called suspicion on the Iranian nuclear program" and in return expect the Iranian nuclear file could be closed including in the U.N. Security Council.

Meanwhile, the ambassador noted that Iran was not obliged to close its Fordo nuclear facility and stop its uranium enrichment.

"Have you read the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons? Does it say that we have no right to enrich uranium to 20 percent?" the ambassador said in response to a reporter's question.

Still, Iran will not pursue nuclear weapons as they could not ensure security for Tehran. "On the contrary, it would bring about risks," he added.

The date for a new round of nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 group, the five permanent U.N. Security Council members plus Germany has not been set, Sajjadi said.
